17 days on the Road: Travel Prep

It took me almost 4 months to prepare for our Malaysia-Thailand-Singapore trip.

What to Look For:

For months, I busied myself looking for airfare promos. Cebu Pacific, AirAsia and Jetstar were my choices because of their affordable promos. Sa kakahanap ko ng promos, I forgot to check the map, thus explaining why our travel route went from down-up, up-down.

My porn consisted of travel blogs/forums and transit maps. I read each traveler's experiences-- took the good ones and printed it. I found time reading about each country-their government, people, local customs, delicious foods, modes of transportation and shopping places. Maps became my everyday puzzle. I have stayed late and slept into it until I finally wrapped my mini research with my handwritten itinerary and proposed budget.

What to Pack:

First, I bought a very durable luggage bag-- big enough to carry all my stuffs and small enough for me to hoist and chuck. I highly recommend this luggage bag, super tibay kahit na napaka-bad ko sa pagtrato sa kanya.

( I got a red one, believe me, super tibay nitong bag na ito)

Of course, I brought the obvious "necessaries"-- clothes, comfy shoes and slippers, sunglasses, towels, toiletries, money, passport.

(comfy shoes-- a must!)

I did not forget my multivitamins, sunblock, jackets, good book, my mom's notebook, camera, hard drive and 3 identification cards. And since I do not own a credit card and I used the credit cards of my sister and my good friend to purchase airline tickets, I also brought with me authorization letters signed by them and a copy of their IDs. I also printed all our airline tickets and made triple copies (OC lang).

Since we went hopping from one country to another, the return ticket to the Philippines was the most necessary print out in all airline check-in counters. I also found my exit/re-entry visa to my country of work essential because some immigration officers were asking about our purpose for visiting their country which was mainly for pleasure.  At least, I had a valid document to support that I have a stable job to support my holiday.

A roaming sim is also a must to contact your loved ones in case of emergency. I found my phone very helpful in this trip- from games and music to keep me entertained while waiting in airport gates, to quick office apps to record all my travel insights and travel apps that helped us when we were lost.

(thank you phone for the good service!)

Don't forget the adapters and plastic bags to put your dirty clothes. Marjorie, my reliable travel buddy did not forget to bring detergents for washing our used clothes and a cute flat iron to keep our clothes pressed.

With all these at hand, we were both set for our planned 13 days, turned 17 days trip around Asia.

Up next: Going in and around Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
